30 Days of Praying through 1 & 2 Chronicles: Day 18 – The Battle is God’s

2 Chronicles 20:15

He said: “Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the Lord says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.”

We are continuing with the theme of battles and wars throughout this chapter. Chapter 20 is one to read over and over because of the great encouragement we can get from it. Here is today’s truth:

  • We do not have to be afraid
  • We do not have to be discouraged
  • The battle is not ours
  • The battle is God’s

Say that last part again: the battle is God’s.

God does not want his people fighting battles on their own. Remember what he told the Israelites when they came up to the Red Sea and the Egyptians were pursuing them? “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” (Ex 14:14)

To not be afraid or discouraged, or to be still, we have to trust in something other than ourselves. Our natural response to hard circumstances are to worry, fear, and try to fix things on our own. God is reminding us: this battle that looms in front of us is being taken care of by him. All we have to do is trust him and be still.

Tell yourself this today: the battle is not mine, it’s God’s.

Father, you are God Almighty who is sovereign and who sees what’s ahead. All we see is the battle in front of us and we are afraid, discouraged, and worried. This battle is too big for us to handle. Help us and remind us that this battle is not ours but yours. Help us to be still and know that you are God. Our trust is weak and we ask that you will strengthen it. We put our lives into your mighty, powerful hands. Amen.
