30 Days of Praying through 1 & 2 Chronicles: Day 23 – Steadfast

2 Chronicles 27:6

Jotham grew powerful because he walked steadfastly before the Lord his God.

Over the last few weeks, we have come across verses that talk about how certain kings grew in power because they trusted, feared, and sought the Lord. This verse just gives us another way that we can be be powerful in this life: to walk steadfast with God.

What does it mean to be steadfast? It means to have endurance or perseverance. It’s continuing the journey no matter what trials come. It’s pressing on even when it hurts. Walking steadfast is no easy task but we have the Lord Almighty to give us the power and grace we need to keep going.

How can we remain steadfast in our walk with God? Hebrews 12:1-3 says, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” There are two things we can do to remain steadfast:

  1. Fix our eyes on Jesus
  2. Consider what Jesus had to endure

When we do this, Hebrews says we will not grow weary and lose heart. We can remain steadfast and endure what is going on around us.

What is the purpose of being steadfast or persevering? James 1 tells us to,“let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” Romans 5 also tells us that perseverance produces character and hope. We can gather from the Word the purpose for walking in steadfastness before the Lord:

  • Maturity
  • Completeness
  • Thriving
  • Character
  • Hope

Walking steadfast may be tough, but the results are worth it.

So, let’s recap. We can grow powerful in the Lord when we walk steadfast with him. We can walk steadfast by fixing our eyes on Jesus and consider what he endured. Then our lives will be mature, complete, thriving, have character and hope. What amazing blessings!

Father, thank you for this verse and showing us the secret to a powerful life. Steadfastness does not come naturally to us and we need our Almighty God to give us the strength to keep walking steadfast. Help us to keep our eyes fixed on you and consider what you endured. We want the spiritual blessings that come with steadfastness. But most of all, we want you. We love you. Amen.
